Animal Jam is a virtual world online game developed by the National Geographic Society in partnership with WildWorks (formerly Smart Bomb Interactive). It is the game the mobile game, Play Wild, was based off of.
About
Animal Jam is a safe and exciting online playground for kids who love animals and the outdoors. Players create and customize their own animal characters and dens, chat with friends, adopt pets, team up for adventures, and feed their curiosity about animals and the natural world around them.
Created in partnership with National Geographic, Animal Jam features classic playground role playing infused with the life sciences. Players can collect fun facts in their journey books, learn about Animal Conservation in Kimbara Outback, and talk to real scientists, like herpetologist Dr. Brady Barr and marine biologist Dr. Tierney Thys.
Beta Testing
Animal Jam launched its open beta testing during the summer of 2010, eventually ending during September of 2010 Which makes September Animal Jam's Birthday.
Comparison to Play Wild
In contrast, Play Wild is set in a three-dimensional universe of Jamaa, while Animal Jam is set in a two-dimensional universe. Many of the games' aspects, such as the shop items, interface, and games, differ from each other as well. The few similarities they share include the basic concepts, for example, trading and receiving gems in order to gain items.
